Lost Broch in
Stirling
In the meantime, you might be interested in what Su was up
to last weekend. She was at an
archaeological dig - …. looking for a lost broch in Stirling.
First discovered in 1870, the site was ignored at the time
by the archaeological establishment because Christian Maclagan was a woman. Christian could possibly be described as Scotland’s
first female archaeologist .
As yet, they cannot be sure they have found the right site,
let alone confirm it is a broch. If it
turns out to be a broch it is likely to be a bit later in date than the brochs
we have seen on Skye.
If you are intrigued, you can find out more at
Cochno Stone
I came across another interesting snippet of news recently. The Cochno stone near Glasgow, has many excellent cup
and ring carvings dating back around 5,000 years. Discovered in 1879, it was buried for
protection in 1965. Recently uncovered
to enable it to be recorded with modern techniques, it has now been re-buried
to protect it for future generations. I
hope, in due course we will be able to see the results of the work. For more information follow the links:
