I would say Borrafiah and Gearymore are definitely brochs - enough preserved to see the broch type circular structure of galleries and guard cells
ReplyDeleteI agree. I'll amend the list.
ReplyDeleteAlan Broch researcher,
DeleteThe fort structures were constructed to protect the ordinary people and the animals. I have found that most of the forts are of a irregular shape with a wide entrance for carts and larger animals. In most of the forts, round houses are still visible and small enclosures. The fort entrances were built with guard cells and thick walls in the side most open to attack.
When I find a Broch, I also look for a fort nearby.
Let's test your theory then: I'll plot brochs and forts on the same map.
DeleteDun Ardtreck is likely a broch too.
